Classic Toys

Lucifer is one of the most scarce and bizarre looking of all of the ten Battlestar Galactica figures and is the only figure that has just 3 points of articulation, at the neck and the shoulders. Lucifer was produced with the stamp of Mattel 1979 on its back.

Ships and Vehicles

Although the Battlestar Galactica ships and vehicles were not produced to fit the scale size of the 3 & 3/4″ figures, they were though some of the nicest produced at that time that rivalled the Star Wars ships and vehicles in their own right. Below is an insight (to the delight of collectors) some of the best examples of boxed collectables photographs available online.

Cyon Raider

The name says it all and the Raider does not fail to deliver. Fits a small Cylon figure (which comes with the ship) fires two missles, has adjustable wings and superb decals to boot. The Cylon figure sits at the front by opening the front cockpit and snapping shut. Also has small fixed undercarriage wheels for landing/take off and running along the ground. Getting your hands on one on these is a mean feat in itself, let alone a boxed one!

Colonial Viper

The Colonial Viper, as the Cylon Raider, came with a small figure (Colonial Warrior) approximately 1 & 1/2″ inches tall. It shot one missle from its nose cone and had adjustable wings with an open shut cockpit canopy to place the figure inside. Also had landing/take off wheels and red and white vibrant stickers to complete. The great play aspect about these was that they were an ideal size to take to and from places as opposed to the Star Wars X-Wing Fighter also popular at the time.

Colonial Scarab

The Colonial Scarab was a six wheeled all terrain scout vehicle which could be taken apart. It was one of the first “interchangable” toys of its time and enjoyed great popularity due to this new unique feature. You could move the cockpit from the up and down launcher front (as box photo) to the back, and then click the rockets into its place. As the like the Viper, the Scarab came with its figure which sat in the cockpit. It also featured two engine hoods which could be lifted up to reveal inside and vibrant red, white and blue decals.

Colonial Stellar Probe
This vehicle/ship had just about everything a collector could possibly want from a classic space toy. Stella Probe, like the Scarab, was interchangable and could be merged with the Scarab to form different variations. A real first for its time and Mattel were really ahead of the game here. The viper style nose cockpit is there but this had a smaller viper style rear wing section which fired two missles, a large body fuel tank, rear boosters and a satelite. The satelite could also be taken apart to interchange with the either the rest of the Stella Probe or the Scarab.

Colonial Pilot

The Colonial Pilot was packaged with the Colonial Viper, Colonial Scarab and the Colonial Stella Probe. A figure approximately 1 & 1/2″ inches tall, it sat in the cockpits of the ships and vehicles with 4 points of articulation at the shoulders and hips.

Viper Launch Station

The Viper Launch Station was not quite the Battlestar that fans had hoped for due to scaling restraints, however it still went a long way to appease the masses of BSG collectors. The Viper Launch Station comes complete with launch station with a runway, two launchable vipers, two laser turrets, solar sensors, a catapult grip, and two Cylon Raider targets.

Colonial Landram

Generally considered to be the rarest of the Mattel Battlestar Galactica toys from the original version of the television series, this 1979 Colonial Landram was never released in America or Great Britain yet made its way on to the Canadian market with both the box and instructions in French and in English.

The ten wheeled Landram came complete with tank tracks, sliding doors, front windscreen, a 1 & ½” inch Colonial Pilot, a top turret double missile launcher and vibrant red, white and blue decals. I.d number on the Landram was “40″. “30″ being the Colonial Stella Probe and “20″ the Colonial Scarab.
